Q: Can I swap an old style O.E.M. large cap Chevy distributer into a 1988 Chevy Suburban?
I want to swap out a late model small cap H.E.I. for an early large cap H.E.I. The small cap H.E.I. distributer in my 1988 Suburban 350 c.i. engine went bad and I have many early model large cap H.E.I. Chevy distributers. Will this swap work and what problems can be expected. I would like to hear from someone that has actually done this swap. No guesses please.

A: I've made the conversion with a 4.3L GM engine in one of our forklifts. You will have to remove the coil & replace the complete distributor in order to use the old style cap. By doing this your electronic timing advance will be affected. An exchange rebuilt distributor is about $100. Maybe that would be an easier route. »»»

Q: how does an auxilary fan on a 1988 chevy suburban work?

A: When the coolant reaches a temperature in excess of 240 degrees Fahrenheit the auxiliary fan will be energized. During A/C operation both fans are employed due to the heat load generated by the condenser. During normal cooling system operation, the main fan will be activated when the cooling temp reaches 220-230 degrees Fahrenheit.

Q: A Big Question About A Suburban and its parts.?
I own a 1988 Chevy V10 Suburban. Half ton-4wheel drive with a 5.8 350. It has the older body style. I was wondering which parts would switch out with some other parts on me truck. I am wanting to know off of which truck or suburban and what year would be applicable to my suburban. I am wanting to know about the leaf springs, sway bar, knuckle flange, brake caliper, steering gear box, driverside window, driver side fender, and hood. Thank You very much for your time. A more detailed answer would be helpful. I know about the chevy style, just not which parts on the chasis I can use.

A: Probably the same back thru 80's and maybe up to the body change in 93?

Q: Most reliable 7 or 8 seat Minivan/Suv with Good gas milage?
We are a family of 8 that has an OLD Chevy Suburban (1988), with gas prices now, it is killing us (about 12 miles to gallon), it is very reliable plus husband can fix it anytime it needs repaired. We almost fear buying something else used -due to repairs he can not do. IT seems all reviews I read has horrendous problems with Transmissions, electrical, etc etc. I can not decide on a newer vehicle (though we MUST buy used, can not afford anything new). Advice please.

A: Honda Odyssey mini van has been rated number one or two for the last 8 or 9 years right along with Toyota Sienna both of them get good mileage around town and out on the the road. I will tell you also that a lot has to do with how one drives to determine what kind of mileage they will get but I owned a 2002 Honda Odyssey and a 2005 Honda Odyssey and now have a 2008 Toyota Sienna and all three would get about 17 or 18 around town and about 25 to 27 on the road. We have used ours to travel extensively and would never use anything but a mini van, .... and to think that I really didn't want one to begin with. We drove BMW's before and unless BMW makes a mini van I won't be driving one of them.
