Q: My 1993 chevy suburban won't continue to run after I ran it out of fuel.?
I changed the fuel filter, added injector cleaner to the fuel tank, even changed the spark plugs. Still no luck. What next?

A: When you ran out of fuel the fuel pump ran dry with no fuel and it probably ruined it.

Q: How do I change the starter in a 1993 Chevy Suburban?

A: 1st disconnect the battery. After that go ahead and jack up the passenger side and place a jack under that side to stabilize it in case of jack failure. This is the side you will be working on. Next you will need a 9/16 socket and racket 3/8 drive is perfect. Loosen the 2 bolts that hold it to the block. Then pull starter back and rest on y-pipe. At this time you can easily disconnect the 2 wires on the back of the starter solenoid. The first one is a big cable that comes from the battery. It should be a 5/8" wrench or socket, it can vary in size, just check and remove with proper size tools. Then the signal wire is the small wire disconnect it, it will be much smaller. After that pull it out and repeat the process in reverse. This is a very easy job, I would suggest wearing safety glasses because of the rust and dirt that will fall into your eyes while doing this. Good Luck!

Q: 1993 chevy suburban?
Engine Mechanical problem 1993 Chevy Suburban V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 220000 miles ---------------------------------------------------------------- Engine quit running. Changed diaphram, relay, and fuel pump. When fuel is poured into the throttle body, motor runs. New fuel pump is running, but no fuel to throttle body. Has new fuel filter also. Tried filling fuel line from the throttle body back and still no fuel pressure. I disconnected the fuel line and both sides of filter has fuel in line but no pressure. Does the ECM control the check valve in the fuel pump? Please give me your opinion on fixing this. Ron

A: sounds like a clog, your best bet is to replace the fuel lines.

Q: Need help with 1993 Chevy Suburban.?
We have a 1993 Chevy Suburban 4x4, 128,000 miles, 5.7L 350 V-8, factory tow package(eng. oil & tran. oil cooler). This Suburban is in excellent condition, especially with it's age. We have 2yrs. & 32,000 miles to go on our extended warranty. Now, my question is what is the safest amount of weight we can tow? We have been given a wide array of figures from Chevy dealers, GM's customer service hotline, RV dealers, the owners manual, etc. Can somebody give me a reliable answer? We are looking at a 26' camper and a 24' camper.

A: I would go by what the owner's manual states...each model year has different towing capacities based on slight differences in power and gearing, spring rates, cooling, etc... Call some dealers that may have a truck fleet manager and see if they have specs from GM going back that far.

Q: 1993 chevy suburban, after I release brake pedal, brakes still on a little bit,?
in normal driving conditions (parking brake released ) , after I hit the brakes and release, the brakes keeps on a little bit, causing to overheat the brakes, it is an abs brakes system. what could it be wrong? abs light on.

A: Sounds like your calipers are starting to stick to the rotors. You're going to need new calipers and front rotors (or rear or whichever one is sticking). The stuck caliper is generating heat while the rotor is giving off the characteristic burnt asbestos smell. Time to visit Mr. Goodwrench or Autozone.

Q: 1993 chevy suburban, cuts off a few seconds after a stop.?
I had a tune up on thursday. They however did not change the oil. They told me to use a feul injector cleaner on a full tank of gas. I put in 22 gallons and the F I cleaner. The needle on the rpm started bouncing up and down with a mild flucuation in the reving idle. I was not touching the gas. Soon after that, it starts to sound like it wants to cut off, then it does. It starts back up, no problem. No smoke is smelled or seen. What could be wrong now?

A: i think the fuel additive loosened up a piece of carbon, and it got stuck in the egr valve. this causes a vacuum leak. these engines build up a lot of carbon and if you dont use a fuel system cleaner regularly, then use some, there is going to be small pieces being cleaned from the engine, and may get stuck in the valve. remove the egr valve and inspect it for debris.

Q: 1993 Chevy Suburban Ac/Heater controls?
The controls for my 93 Suburban will not work they light up but I cannot figure out why they will not work, I recently had the ignition changed and it was after that it quit working. I assume maybe they unplugged something accidentally but where do I start? I've checked all the fuses and they are all good should I start taking it apart or does someone know of a wire or something easily accessible that could have been unplugged while changing out the ignition?

A: there a vacaum line off some were,

Q: 1993 Chevy Suburban Tune-Up?
A friend kindly offered to complete a tune up on my 93 sub with 114k miles...I just have to buy parts. It was previously owned by an auto mechanic so I assume its in good shape. Just wanted to clarify that I have a complete list of what to get: fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, PCV filter, dist. cap, rotor (distributor?), differential fluid, brake fluid, transmission fluid, gas filter.......anything I am missing. Appreciate the help all! Any brands recommended?

A: You can't go wrong with ACDelco. Although Napa Heavy Duty Spark Plug Wires are pretty nice. Brake Fluid, as long as it's DOT3 it should be fine. Transmission Fluid, Castrol makes a good synthetic blend. Get a K&N air filter, I originally was skeptical about the whole K&N thing, but I tried them and I've never gone back to Fram filters. Other things to check, Oxygen Sensor (if you're exhaust smells). Battery Terminals, the GM dual wire design is notorious for corrosion, so you're gonna wanna check them and clean if necessary.

Q: i need to know how to tighten the tension in the steering box of a 1993 chevy suburban 4x4. thanks 4 the help!

A: I think I know where you're coming from. Older Chevy trucks are famous for having the idler arm bushings wear out. causes the truck to wander all over the road. While there is a jamb nut and screw on the steering box to adjust the gear lash I'd stay away from it. look for worn tie-rod ends or play in that infamous idler arm. also a bad alignment with too much toe out can cause that all over the road feeling. good luck.

Q: My 1993 Chevy Suburban is not staying on when started.?
It will start up (turn over) but it won't stay running, you could get it to drive, but it will cut off. I have had the fuel injectors replaced and had a new coil replaced. It is true that the gas I used was bad so I need a new fuel pump? It seems like the fuel is just not getting to where it should be and when it DOES drive, it sputters and doesn't have a lot of push, it tries, then dies out. Does this sound like a fuel pump problem?

A: the frist step is to put fuel pressure gauge on it shold be alest 35 to 40 psi if lower need to check for restrited filter if not probley bad pump but if pressure ok sounds like cat converter stopped up easy test is to put vacume gauge on vacume port at intake and start should have vacume 15 inchs or more then raise rpm if looses vacume there is a restriction int the exhaust

Q: Chevy Suburban HELP! Steering?

Q: can i transfer a quad seat chevey suburban to a bench seat?
i have a 1993 chevy suburban with two single seats in the back i want to take them out and put a bench seat will the bolts line up

A: Don't know if there are already holes to bolt the bench seat to or not...but if you want the bench seat it's no big deal. Remove your two seats...set your bench seat in there and see what it looks like. If holes are already there...good for you. If not get a drill and drill the holes to mount the bench. Use LARGE washers to spread the load of the new seat and to level it if necessary. Just cause the factory may not have provided holes doesn't mean it won't fit.
