Q: What's the difference in an LT and LS on a 1998 Chevy Suburban?
I have a suburban that has been given to us...and to check out how much it's worth...I'm trying to find out if it's a 1998 Chevy Suburban LS or LT??

A: the Suburban had 3 trim levels in 1998 a base model the LS then the LT (the LT was the top of the line trim) if there are no markings on the vehicle it is most likely a base model, the higher the trim level the more options were standard and interior trim, for example most LT's will have leather) you can contact your local Chevy dealer with the vin (serial) number and the can advise you of which model you have. you can try autotrader.com kellybluebook.com

Q: 1998 chevy suburban rear light bulb change?
My rear signal was not working, changed the bulb and still have a fast blink on the front and nothing in the back. what do I try next?

A: Maybe you changed the wrong bulb? There are two of them.

Q: Cam Shaft Sensor For 1998 Chevy Suburban?
I have 1998 Chevy Surburban with the 5.7 350 in it. Does anyone know where the Cam Shaft Sensor is located on this truck?

A: The cam position sensor is located in the distributor. Why? What is wrong? Does a scan tool indicate to much variation? Feel free to mail me if you need more help.

Q: why does my 1998 Chevy Suburban bog down when the accelerator is pressed?

A: I own a shop, and think this; When one presses the accelerator, you are introducing air into the system through the throttle body, thus the throttle position sensor sends a signal to the computer, and the computer fires the injectors based on how much you press the gas pedal. If more air is being introduced into the engine than fuel, then the engine will bog. A plugged up fuel filter is a good example for a reason this may take place. If the engine has a vacuum leak such as the EGR valve sticking in the open position, this will also cause it to have too much air, and not enough fuel. It would be best to check the fuel pressure on the rail to see if its what is should be. You may have a bad throttle position sensor doing it, but it would be wise to make sure it has enough fuel, and no vacuum leaks before replacing the sensor. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Q: does any one need parts for 1998 chevy suburban 4 wheel drive?

A: is the drive train in good running condition.transfer case, trans, rearend

Q: Is a 1998 4x4 Chevy Suburban any good for offroading?
I am considering purchasing a 1998 Chevy Suburban (or similar model/year). I am wondering if it is any good for off roading? Nothing too serious. I am just wondering if it is trail capable, like a little bit of mudding and some trail riding (hills etc.) I do not intend to do any rock climbing or anything that serious. I am looking at the K1500 4WD with the 5.7L V8. I do not intend to do much aftermarket either, I prefer not to have to lift, but tires, bolt on engine performance, and other smaller or easier/inexpensive upgrades are a possibility. Your response and help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

A: I own a similar vehicle; '97 Ex cab short bed K1500. Yes they are similar; they have an identical drive train. It lacks some ground clearance, and the front suspension has poor articulation (characteristic of the IFS). A good set of tires and a good driver can turn it in to a capable vehicle!!! Your biggest concern should be vehicle size. Most people will not push the limits of the ability of the vehicle. You already have one benefit of the IFS for mud because of the increased clearance (between the tires) of the IFS; no axle tubes to drag in deep mud. I've taken my truck on everything, from Moab trails, to sand dunes, to over 14000' elevation, and I'm running a stock sized tire with no lift. Some weak links on these vehicles... The fuel pump. Try to not run the tank below 1/4. This keeps the pump submerged in fuel to help cool it. Run it empty and you will reduce its life. It has nothing to do with 'sucking up crap', it has to do with overheating the pump. Front axle actuator. It WILL fail. You have the choice of replacing it with another factory unit, or try the Posi-Lok... Take your pick. As soon as mine dies, I'm getting a Posi-Lok. http://www.4x4posi-lok.com/app_chevy-k.html The front axle shafts (half-shafts/CV shafts). If your mean to it, they will break. What sucks, is you cannot remove it and drive home, you need to destroy the shaft and use the outer part to hold the wheel/hub on so you can drive it home. Unless your an idiot, you shouldn't break one. For your information, a front limited slip or locker is NOT available. You would be busting CV joints constantly, nor would the aluminum differential housing stand up to the abuse. A rear LS or locker is fine, and the axle tubes will handle the abuse that 98% or people would dish out. The 2500 series front-end components will not fit the 1500 with the exception of the torsion bars. You can run a 285/75R16 without lift. An aggressive tire will grab at the inner fender when the suspension is compressed during a full-lock turn, but will not cause any damage. Quick engine mods would be a handheld programmer (Superchips, ect). If you really want a change, use a Wester's Programmer or custom tune. They can disable the torque-management and it will REALLY wake up the 350. Don't waste your money on a throttle body spacer, unless you want an annodized aluminum paper weight for the office. You may want to invest in a tranny cooler (if it doesn't have one from the factory). Heat kills trannies. I have the factory cooler on mine and it works just fine. I was able to heat the trans while climbing Pikes Peak with a weeks worth of camping gear and crap, but went all the way to the top without needing to stop and hit 205*. Buy the burb! You will not regret it! Parts are cheap and plentiful. They are easy to work on, and if you ever feel like you have outgrown it, do a solid axle swap. The 14BFF axle is an easy swap for the rear, and a solid axle under the front end makes all the difference for how capable you are off road.

Q: is there a gm recall on antilock brakes for a 1998 chevy suburban?

A: There is a recall on some 98 Suburbans concerning front brake rotors, but I don't think it relates specifically to antilock brakes. Check out http://auto-recalls.justia.com/content/98V033000-CHEVROLET-SUBURBAN-1998.html

Q: I need to replace the fuel injector on my 1998 Chevy Suburban?
IF SOMEBODY CAN PROVIDED PICTURES OR MANUAL HOW TO I WILL BE SO HAPPY IF I CAN GET SOME HELP

A: this truck has sequential fuel injection. if its a small block the injectors are under, and inside the upper intake plenum. If its a big block, they are external. if you have a small block, you really need to be at least above average at performing service to your vehicle. If not done correctly, It WILL have vacuum leaks.

Q: how do you change a cam sensor on a 1998 chevy suburban?

A: This is so easy a cave man could do it!!! But not being sure about this particular bodystyle I'd recommend getting an auto manual from auto zone. I've done this engine before but the truck has different locations for other accessories that may get in the way. "BRILLIANT"!!!!

Q: 1998 Chevy Suburban 4X4... I need help!!!?
Okay so the best way to describe the problem is this, when I get into my truck and I put the key in the ignition and turn it, it takes a few seconds (5-8 seconds) for it to grab and then starts up, it used start up as soon as I turned the key, and now it seems to only be getting worse, there have been times it has taken an extra few seconds, and I thought it wasn't going to start at all. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them...... I am confused if it could be the starter, ignition switch, hell I don't know... maybe you guys out there can help me.

A: If it is not the starter then you have a loose or bad ground somewhere

Q: i have a 1998 chevy suburban and it is a pain in the butt! has anyone had trouble with them?
just as i thought we were done changing everything in this truck (tranny to muffler and everything in between) i sprung a leak and low and behold, the only thing we have not replaced is the water pump! it looks like it is dripping from there anyway, even when it just sat there overnight the all the coolant leaked out? does anyone know for sure before i dish out more money? and please don't tell me to get rid of it, it's paid off and i have spent way too much money on it to let it go for pennies- it's worth more to me than the dealer! please help!

A: On the bottom of the water pump there is a "weap hole". You'll need to crawl under the vehicle and take alook at that hole. If it's wet the pump needs to be replaced.

Q: I have a 1998 suburban how much horsepower does it have? It has a 350 Vortec in it. Thanks?
Hi I have a 1998 chevy suburban i want to know how much horsepower and torque it has and and what rpm it is at. It has a 350 Vortec in it. And how much is it for a brand new engine just like that one 350 Vortec, because this one is getting tired with 187000 miles on it. Thanks Kyle

A: With that kind of mileage, I'd just guess around 230 to 240 HP

Q: 1998 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN (Question About Seats)?
ARE ANY OF THE THREE ROWS OF SEATS IN A 1998 CHEVY SUBURBAN REMOVABLE (AS IN A MINIVAN). ALSO, IF THEY DO COME OUT, CAN THEY BE PUT IN BACKWARDS SO THE TWO BACK ROWS FACE EACHOTHER? Thnx I DONT OWN ONE. I AM CONSIDERING PURCHASING ONE.

A: The rear seat is removable but not reversible. They are as good a vehicle as how they're treated. If they're mistreated or non maintained properly they're a problem child otherwise they're very dependable. I see many of them with hundreds of thousands of miles on them, and running great.

Q: Any good Chevy mechanics out there?
I have a 1998 chevy suburban and my rear drivers side turn signal doesn't work, I have replaced the bulbs and still no luck! The front signal works but it flashes very rapidly, any suggestions?

A: Sounds like you need a tail light ciruit board its the thing the tail light bulb plugs into you can get them at the chevy dealer or ussally at a good auto part store
