Q: How much does it cost to Charge a Air Conditioner in A 1998 Chevy Tahoe?
My husband's Tahoe is blowing hot air, when the Air Conditioner is on...he read the A/C needs to be Charged.
A: It's a little more complicated than that.
Firstly, you need to see if the compressor clutch engages at all, you can do so by popping the hood and turning the A/C on, you should hear a click and the engine dragging down.
if it does turn on, and it turns off and on about every 10 seconds, that means you're low on R-134a, or you have a clog somewhere in the system.
If it doesn't cycle at all, that could mean that either it leaked out, a bad fuse, a bad wire, a bad switch, a bad clutch or the compressor is seized.
If it doesn't engage at all, you should first start by hooking a manifold gauge set to it and see what the pressure is, then charge it accordingly. You can just buy one of those kits with R-134a and a charging hose and try adding a little, but you could risk over charging and that will give you results as bad as if you were low on it. If you live in Canada, the kits are quite hard to find.
I would recommend taking it to a mechanic and having them do some diagnostics on it. Also, I think for a quicky charge at a place like pep boys is like $70 (but don't quote me on that) if there is no large leaks.

A: Drop the tranny pan and install a new filter and reinstall the pan with a new gasket and refill the tranny.

A: At your fuel pump relay you should have a wire going into pin 87a. This should be a red wire. It is called the fuel pump prime wire. The end of that wire is taped to somewhere within the engine harness near the fire wall. But don't waste a lot of time looking for it. Induce 12 volts into pin 87a with the relay plugged in. This basically goes through the relay and energizes the pump. It won't tell you if the relay is good, but it will tell you if the circuit from the relay back to the pump is good. If you have adequate fuel pressure while inducing 12 volts into pin 87a then you know the problem is from the relay back to the PCM or other controls.
If you don't have fuel pressure at this point after powering 87a, leave power applied there and disconnect the fuel pump connector at the tank and look for 12 volts at the gray wire. If you have it, then you are looking at another fuel pump failure.
Bear in mind, These fuel pumps may run, but the pressure MUST be 55 minimum. Anything less and these Chevy trucks will not run. I have been bit in the a** by this before. Even 50 psi is not enough.

A: Fuel pump likely, the pressure will have to be above 50 psi to start. Hit the bottom of fuel tank to start fuel pump up this will work for a short time before pump dies completely

A: More than likely your fuel pump is burned out. To confirm this you can hook up a volt meter to your fuel pump connector (located near the gas tank), have someone turn the key to the on position and watch for 12volts during the time the system relay turns on (approx. 4 seconds). If you have power there, then you need to replace the pump, which is located inside the tank.
A tip for increasing life of any fuel pump, is don't run around town with low fuel levels. The gas in your tank acts as a coolant to your fuel pump, when the tank is low and your fuel pump, pumps air it gets hot and shortens it's life.
Q: I have a 1998 chevy tahoe that has an ac problem, need help badly?
I have tried to fill the ac but it does not help any. i have compression but it is not cooling the cab off.
i work for a lube shop and have the equipment to re-charge my freon and i dont have any leaks.
it is not icing and i am running at 45 psi the compressor comes on and goes off almost instantly, none of the hoses are cold and the pressure keeps dropping after a few days.
A: What are your line pressures? Is the liquid line icing at the orifice tube? Need alot more info to trouble shoot, but if the pressures are good, it has to be an blend door problem.
What is your head pressure? If the pressure is dropping after a few days, you have a leak. See what the head pressure is. That compressor has a high pressure switch in it. That will give us something more to go on, but it may be a compressor problem, or way overcharged.

I have a 1998 Chevy Tahoe ( 4 Door ). The passenger side door, the power window works going down, but it doesnt go up ( from the driver side button) you have to reach over and push the button to roll it up. Also, the power locks... they will unlock when you push the button, but they wont lock, you have to manually lock all the doors. Can someone please give me some advice to fix this?!? thanks for all the answers in advance.

A: On the front of the wiper transmission theres a module, which contains a circuit board with 2 relays, and a cam that rides the wiper motor and opens a switch every cycle. Remove the module and make sure the cam is properly placed (it should NOT be jammed on the pin, it needs to clear the pin), and make sure the ground tab (metal tab a screw goes through) doesn't have any gasket material on it.

A: You say it won't crank or turn over? I have to assume if you have spark it is turning over but not starting. You need to check to make sure the injectors are pulsing. Hook up a test light to the injectors and crank the engine over to see if the are pulsing to get fuel to the engine. If not you could have a power or ground issue or if that is ok most likely an ignition module problem in the distributor...Good luck

A: You have to change the igniton lock and ignition case....It is a common problem due to age....After these items have been replace, you have to reprogram the security system...

A: LS and LT denote different levels of convenience packages. LS is typically cloth seats with power driver seat and manual passenger seat. LT is the "luxury package" will usually come with leather seats, power seats, windows, locks, etc...
