Q: i want to trade in my 1999 chevy tahoe for a more fuel efficient car?
the thing is I still owe about $9,000 on the tahoe. So what is the best thing to do?
A: get comfortable. You won't get $9k out of your Tahoe unless you sell it outright. Even then it may come up a little short. You dont mention miles or condition of the car. So assuming the average miles - 12k / yr = 108,000 miles and average condition, your trae value is about $4000 tops.
Add to that, most dealers will not want this car on their lot. So as a trade, they need to look at auction value. Plan on getting about $3-3500 for the car on trade.
If you sell it outright on the streets - you MIGHT get closer to what you owe. if you come up short, you have to make up that difference in cash.
A lot of people - dealers especially - will invite you to trade the car in and roll that negative equity into the new car loan. I strongly caution against this.
If we get really generous and allow $4000 for the trade, that means you are roling an extra $5000 into the new car loan. That $5000 just gets tacked on top of the loan.
In order to get a bank loan that allows an extra $5k added on you need really good credit. And, assuming that you have to do this, I also assume you have little or no down. That means that no matter what you buy, you will be adding $5000 PLUS tax, DMV fees, etc to the next car loan.
You will have to look at a car in the $20K range to have any hope of getting that kind of advance - 125% of the car value + TTL. So, you will end up making payments on $20K, the fees on 20K (about $2000) and the $5k you added to the loan.
You now owe $27,000 on a car worth $20k. When you drive off, that car is worth about $15,000. You are now $12,000 upside down.
but it gets worse. You wont be able to trade out of this new car for at least 4 yrs. Youwill have to make that many payments just to get close to what you will owe.
your payments on that deal will be around $450 for 72 months.
I dont know waht your payments are now. But I bet you can make the payments, absorb the gas costs, and be well ahead of the game if you just tighten up in a few places.
Cheers - good luck - think this over thoroughly
Q: How do you adjust the steering gear box on a 1999 chevy tahoe?
The steering wheel has a too much play for me. How can I fix it?
A: I would check the other parts tie rods, idler arm, ect the gear box has very little adjustment and usually 99% is not the problem. after the parts are replaced the truck will need to be aligned. shop around prices vary in this case even auto zone lifetime are moog parts .good luck
Q: How Do I change the Ball Joints on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
I'm having a hard time making right turns. The power steering fluid is full. The dust boots on the lower ball joints on both sides is cracked. Should I attempt to replace the ball joints myself or just take it to the shop? What would be the average price for all four ball joints to be replaced? Thanks!
A: Raise the front end off the ground, place jack stands under the frame so the front suspension hangs free. Take a long pry bar or a wrecking bar if that's all you have. Move the lower 'A' frames up and down. Grab the tires and see if they move around or feel "loose". If the ball joints are bad, you'll see them move. You can also work the steering back and forth and maybe see whats binding. Ball joints are not hard to change, they are not very expensive.
Q: How do I change a signal turn light on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
My blinker on the drivers side is out, and I don't want to get a ticket. I know it has to be an easy fix.
I cannot see how to gain access to the light compartment.
A: front light? If so then there are 2 L shaped rods on the headlight housing. You turn them and pull them up. Then the whole headlight assembly comes out and you can now get to the blinker light. the rear open the rear doors and you should see 2 screws on each side take out the 2 on the side that is out and the whole plastic light casing will come off.
Q: What is this growling noise coming from the front left tire area of my 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
At about 55-65 MPH the front driver wheel area begins to growl, especially when I apply gas. What could this be? PLEASE HELP!
A: Your wheel bearing needs replacement
Q: Does anyone know where I can get a factory amp bypass harness for a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
Also, any ideas on where the amp itself is located?
My factory amp recently failed and I'd like to just bypass it ... any suggestions on the easiest way to do this with the best connection possible would be HIGHLY appreciated. Thanks!

my 1999 chevy tahoe is making noise when i put it in reverse and drive but more in reverse.
A: take it to an automotive shop to let them check it out. or maybe if you have power steering, than you are just low on the fluid. Good luck

Q: Anyone interested or know someone who wants to buy a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
I will sell it for $ 9,500. It is in great shape and it is loaded with remote starter.
A: try selling it on Craigslist
Q: Where is the starter relay located on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
Truck won't start, and I bought the relay to see if that might be the problem before I take it to the shop. But I don't know where to find the relay to replace it.
A: It is on the side of the starter. You will have to remove the starter to replace the relay.
Q: 1999 chevy tahoe 4X4,when i put it in 4WD i can here the transfur case ingaging but my front tires dont spin??
I can hear the transfer case locking in; the front drive shaft does spin; I still have low range on the rear end in 4 low, but the front tires still won't turn in 4 high or 4 low
A: Check the shift actuator on the front differential. They are famous for being short lived. If you aren't hearing any noise it is unlikely to be differential or axle problems.
Q: My heater blower to my 1999 chevy tahoe will come on and off, could there be a shortage in the wire or what ?
The heater blower motor will come on and off at will, I think it may have a shortage in the wiring. And if so, where are the wires located. This is a 1999Chevy Tahoe, 4 wheel drive.
A: It may be the blower moter itself. Or it could also be the blower moter resistor. Also it could be a sensor or a relay as well. To find the wiring you must first locate the blower motor. Once you have found that, the wires should be visable to trace for a shortage. Somtimes the blower motor is under the hood near the passenger's side of the firewall and mounted in a plastic housing. Otherwise the blower motor is under the dash near the heater case.
Q: What's a reasonable cost for 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
It has 4 doors, about 148,000 miles, highway miles. No repairs needed to be done. How much is a reasonable price?
A: Right now, due to high gas prices, you can pretty much throw the NADA and Kelly Blue Books out the window in regards to used suv prices. I've seen quite a few newer low mileage suv 's advertised for $10-15,000 under NADA retail. You should be able to purchase a high mileage '99 for under $5k as the market for them is nearly non existent.
Q: Im looking at a 1999 Chevy Tahoe LT 4x4. I was wondering if that would beable to pull my camper which has a?
tongue wieght of about 1500 to 2000 pounds? Would this vehicle have any trouble at all pulling my camper?
A: If your trailer is that big I wouldn't tow it with nothing smaller that a 3/4 ton Suburban or pickup. With a 1/2 ton tahoe or pickup it may pull it but the drivetrain is to lite and things like the rear differential and transmission are to lite... Go big or go home...
