Q: Where can I find hardware for a 1998 chevy tracker soft top, all I get on the web is the fabric??
I need the bar that is on the bottom of the rear window that holds it to the rear tail gate. It has clips that are broken and ALL web sites give me soft tops but NO hardware I think it is called "retainer bar". Any help??? thanks, Dave
A: You can try; www.calmini.com
or a junk yard.
also when you search the internet, its a Geo Tracker, Not Chevy!
Q: What does a bad car starter sound like?
This morning my 1998 Chevy Tracker didn't want to start... and this was the 1st time this has ever happened. I turned the key and the engine sounded like it tried to turn over once or twice, then a strange high pitch to low pitch wheeze happened and it wasn't trying to turn over anymore... I kept at it.. and the same thing happened over and over.. then... it started... and ran fine all the way to work - over 15 miles. When I got to work I shut it off then tried to start it up again and the same wheeze happened... sounds like the starter???
A: I think what the other reply was trying to say is that you have a bad "BENDIX" gear in your starter. When you turn the ignition to the start position thats the gear that moves in the starter housing and engages your flywheel thus turning your engine over. If it's bad, just replace the whole starter. Another possibility is some broken teeth on your flywheel. Sometimes when you turn off a motor the flywheel may be in a position if it has broken teeth where the starter cannot engage it.when you try to start. If you have the no start problem "ALL" the time my bet would be a bad starter.
Q: Upside down on loan looking to trade for a different car- How do I do this? Any Suggestions?
I need to trade my 2002 chevy tracker in for a car. I owe $12,000 yet on the tracker. Blue book says $7500 trade in value. I currently have every extra warranty and gap on the tracker. What can I do? How do I do it? I'm looking for a Toyota car. Should I go newer like 2005 or older like 1998? Which would be the best way to go?
Should I hope and pray for it to get totaled?
Can I sell it instead of trade it in?
So far where I live I've found:
2005 Corolla $10,500 and 47,920 miles,
1998 Camry $5,944 12,2657 miles, or
1996 Camry $3,977 177,207
A: Your pro-rated refund on the extended warranty will only equate to a couple hundred dollars at best, not $1,000. If you go for a 1998 model, a prime lender won't finance the car because it is older than 2001, so if those are your options, go with the 2005 model.
Most dealerships go by Black Book, not Blue Book, so don't be surprised if they only give you $7,000 or less. Kelly Blue Book is only guide and doesn't actually purchase vehicles at the prices they claim. I don't know what the value of your car is in regards to Black Book, but sometimes it is close to Blue Book.
You can sell your car yourself, however if you sell it for lets say $10,000, you will have to come up with $2,000 before the lender will release the title.
$3,500 upside down is not all that bad compared to many vehicle purchases. Definitely examine the paperwork before you sign it, so you aren't stuck into a 7 year loan or something like that. Good luck!
Q: I need a driver's side mirror?
I have a 1998 4 Door Chevy Tracker and need to find a driver's side replacement mirror (Kit). I've been searching the internet and can't find one. Please help!
A: try calling the junk yard in your area....it is cheaper...
Q: I have car troubble!!! Help!!?
I am the owner of a Chevy Tracker its a 1998 model. Its a great car except it squeaks and over heats if i take it for more than an hour drive. The squeak is constant and only stops when I accelerate or when the car is off. I have had a few friends tell me it is either a belt(where exactly in the car i don't know) or its the water heater. I don't have enough money to sell it and I would really like to know what is wrong with it so i can search a possible part on Craig's list or Ebay. Please when you respond give me how you know and I would like to say thank you ahead of time for helping me out =) you are all awasome =)
I would like to know how easy or uneasy it is to fix whatever you think is wrong.
If you have further questions about the problems in my car please email me at brunettes_do_it_way_better_12345@yahoo.com
thanks agian
A: I think your friends are on to something as I believe it is your water pump belt also. This is located on the front of the engine behind the radiator, under the plastic shield that covers it.Unfortunately I can't tell from what you've told me if the belt is worn out or if the belt tension er is weak. What I would suggest to you is take it to an auto parts store that you trust and have them look at it,and if it is the tension er,be sure to also replace the belt,as the squealing is the belt slipping, and wearing out.Good Luck Hope this helped.P.S. Luckily neither of these parts are that expensive or hard to replace, just have the auto parts clerk point them out ot you,and if you buy the parts from them you will probably have made an invaluable friend for any future problems you may encounter.
