Q: I have a P0128 code on my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, where should I start?
Should I start with the thermostat or the coolant temperature sensor. Will this affect my mpg?
A: replace the thermostat, have fun as this isn't very easy for an amature
Q: What kind of belt do I need for my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer?
It's starting to make a squeeking noise when I start the car. Any ideas anyone?
A: I own a shop, and think this; Don't assume its the belt causing the problem. The best advice "anyone" could give you is this; Remove the belt, and physically turn all the pulleys by hand to see which one is doing the squeaking. 90% of the time its a bad bearing in one of the pullies, or the alternator is beginning to have problems. When you start you car, the battery uses a lot of power to do this with, and this makes the alternator have to work hard for the first few minutes of operation. When the alternator is charging hard, or has a big load on it, it will be much harder to turn than at any other time, so I don't really think its the belt slipping, but it could be, and the only way to be certain is to remove it, and check things out first. "DO NOT" use any belt dressing on a serpintine belt. If you do; you are messing up, and will have to clean it every bit off before the belt will ever work right again. The Serpintine belt uses a tensioner that is self adjusting to maintain the proper tension at all times on the belt, so if its slipping, then you may need to replace the tensioner and/or a pully. Some vehicles has a seperate V-belt to pull the power steering, and if this is your case, then you probably need to replace it because once they slip, they will glaze over, and can't be made to pull right again.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
Q: Where can I find seat covers that are cheap for a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer?
We purchased seat covers from Walmart but did not realize that they do not have a hole for the seatbelt. Our seatbelt comes right out of the seat instead of the side panel. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for 2 covers
A: http://www.car-stuff.com/store/?N=9990+4294966998+1588+11920+9239 This site sells quility seat covers that last a long time and fit well.Best of luck.
Q: how do i replace low beam headlight on 2004 chevy trailblazer?
my owners manual says call you local dealer but i rather not and just do it myself. Are there any tutorials that I can follow that are decent?
A: Open the hood.
Remove the front grille.
Pull up on the two retainers that are on the top of the headlamp assembly, this releases the lamp assembly from the mounting bracket. Pull outward slightly to access the electrical connectors. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
Open the access cover on the back of the lamp assembly for the lamp you wish to replace.
Twist the back of the bulb counterclockwise to disengage it from the assembly.
Reverse procedure to install.
Q: 2004 Chevy Trailblazer water pump?
I have 2004 Chevy Trailblazer V8 4x4 that the water pump went out on. Does anyone know how long it takes to change it and where it is located? The dealer wants $750.00 to fix it. I really don't want to get riped off.
A: Depends on the engine. For the 4.2L (6 cylinder), the water pump (part # 24576952) costs $107.22. Labor time is 3.1 hours. There is also about 2 gallons of Dexcool coolant, about $30.
For the 5.3L (V8), the water pump (part # 89017439) costs $231.42. Labor time is 3.6 hours. Also, 2 gallons Dexcool, $30.
For the 4.2L, $750 is definately too much. For the V8, unless the labor rate at that dealer is about $135 per hour, $750 is still too high.
I worked for a Chevy dealer for 3 1/2 years, and now own an independant shop. I recommend you find a good honest independant, and stick with them. I would charge just over $300 for the 4.2, about $500 for the V8. Now that you know the price of the parts and the labor time, you can make some calls and get a good estimate. Your first question should be what their labor rate is. Then tell them what you need done. Good luck.
Q: 2004 chevy trailblazer stalling while driving down the road?
While driving down the road at any speed my trailblazer will die on me. when I pull over take the keys out of the ignition and then turn it back on it starts right up but the service brake system or check air bags scrolls on my screen. it doesn't happen everyday but when it happens it will do it 4-6 times during the day. We already replaced the battery. When it dies the radio, lights etc.. still work.
A: Please take your trailblazer to your local chevy dealership. They will check the system with a teck-2 and tell you whats wrong. If your trailblazer is under 3 and 36k it will be fixed for free.If the problem is emmisions its still covered.
Q: How to change rear brake pads and rotor on a Chevy 2004 Trailblazer EXT?
grinding sound when i stop. Notice only the rear driver side wheel has worn pads and rotor has grooves in it.
A: The information you've received thus far is good. You'll need a set of 1/2 inch drive shallow well metric sockets and a 16" breaker bar or a 16" ratchet. The bolts inside the spindle are hardened, usually rusted somewhat and they have *Blue loctite in the bolt threads from the factory. That's why you'll need the extra leverage of a 16" ratchet or a less expensive braker bar. Sears and Auto Zone's best sockets work fine for this type of work.
After removing the brake caliper it's necessary to remove the brake caliper bracket before removing the brake rotors. Make sure you check and lubricate the brake slider pins with synthetic brake grease, avalable at any auto parts store. It may be necessary to hammer the inside of the brake rotor outward with a heavy ball pein hammer of a short lightweight maul. Turn the rotor as you hammer it. It's rusted on the end of the drive axles.
**It's important to use an electric drill with a stiff hardware store wire brush mounted on a spindle to clean the inside surface of the rotor which was rusted on the axle flange. Use the same wire brush to clean off the ends of the axles. If you have a shop nearby with a brake lathe the rotors should be re-surfeaced. If new rotors are necessary, find an AC-Delco dealer or your local Chevrolet parts counter. Auto parts stores nowadays sell cheap junk off-shore brake rotors which aren't worth your time and energy installing. autopartswarehouse.com has EBC slotted and dimpled rotors that have been cast in Great Britain which are exceptional parts.
Off-shore (China) cast iron is terrible. It'll rust corrode and warp easily. You'll also notice large pits in the surfaces as the brake pads wear the surfaces.
What ever brake rotors you decide to go with paint a thin coat of *Never Seize on the inside surface that mates to the axles. The rotors will never stick on the ends of the axles again. Select Ceramic brake pads also. Bendix CT.3 @ autopartswarehouse.com or Advanse Auto. AC-Delco are the two brands I'd suggest.

Q: how hard is it to change the shift solenoid in a 2004 chevy trailblazer LS transmission?
A: Not too dificult. It all depends on your abilities if you plan on doing it yourself.
I can't remember if you have the 4L60E or the 65E (May have been introduced in '07???). Anyway more than likely you will need to drop the valve body to access the shift solenoids. I do know that on the 60E the only solenoids you can access without pulling the valve body is the torque convertor lock up solenoids. You will need to remove the tranny fluid pan to access ANY solenoids.

Q: How difficult is it to replace a drivers side mirror on a 2004 Trailblazer?
The driver's side mirror has broken on my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. Not sure what happened (teens driving my car). Anyway, it appears to have broken at the part that the unit pivots on. I feel sure that the entire unit needs to be replaced, but is it possible that I can do it myself? I hate to pay a mechanic to do it if the process is simple. The mirror is not heated, and does not have any turn signal mechanism, however it can be controlled from inside the vehicle. What do you think? Is it worth trying to do it myself or should I just suck it up and make an appointment with the dealership? Thanks for any suggestions!
A: I believe that it is fairly easy. Remove the triangular access panel near the mirror on the inside of the door. Disconnect the wiring connectors. Not sure if there is more than one on your car - mine only has power mirrors and no turn signal or heated mirror. There should be three nuts that hold the mirror in place. Remove the nuts and pull the mirror free. Reverse the steps to install the new mirror.
