Q: What would make a 1998 Chevy Venture start then stall right after ignition before in gear?
My Van started stalling out a couple weeks ago It will start and then stall before in gear but will start after 3 or 4 trys, we took it to the shop the did a tune up and charged us 220.00 now its stalling worse, we took it back to the garage they said it need the tune up they changed the sparkplugs, a new air filter and fuel filter, when we took it back the guy said that its from the cold weather and his car does the same thing, I dont believe that, a little wile ago we had to put coolant in the van because the light came on but thats all.

A: The fuel injectors need to be cleaned.

Q: How do you install a cd player in a 1998 chevy venture?
I need to know what wires are postive and what are negitive

A: This what you need.... http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/GM-Wiring.pdf Along with your instructions to match up the wires. You don't need the harness adapter. You can cut and splice the wires. The installation kit is important and the antennah adapter is also a must. Caution: On certain GM models the radio controls the door chimes... you may lose this function (no big deal)

Q: Will a keyless remote that worked for one 1998 Chevy venture work for another with programming?
IIf so do you know where I can get free programming for it?

A: Yes it will. Google "Chevrolet keyless remote programming" to see if the reprogramming instructions are available on the web. (Ford transmitters can be reprogrammed at home - I have done it and it's easy. Not sure about Chevy though) If not - Go to the dealer for reprogramming.

Q: 1998 Chevy Venture Problem?
I Just got a new engine in our 1998 Chevy Venture Van because, we were driving the van..and it wouldn't speed up and the engine started rattling real bad shaking. We have been driving it for about 2 months now and the van has been making a thud noise when you give it some gas after you stop. Today the engine smoked alittle, then started shaking like it did before the new engine...but not quite as bad we made it home with out any problems...but I know its getting ready to die again.. The check engine light did just come on today and the reading said there was to much gas flow to the combustion I don't know what could cause that...any idea's what this could be? I'm going to make a appointment for the van on monday.

A: The engines in these had a design defect. Many were replaced under warranty, but you may want to do some research to see if you just got another defective engine. GEEZ, this could go on forever.

Q: i have a 1998 chevy venture and the tranny slips?
when it slips will not move i turn it off and start it agian then i goes then does the same thing

A: to answer the one other guy, the american nightmare transmission (as he calls it) is NOT in this vehicle. yours is a 4t65e. there is a dipstick located in the back of the engine compartment on the drivers side. Sounds kind of serious though. Your only chance is to change the firlter and fluid and see if you can nurse it along. Thats only a band aid though. And by the way, THat nightmare trans 4t40e has been one of the most reliable ones ever put out. i would know becauwe if so many were breaking, id be making alot more money

Q: 1998 Chevy Venture Idling problem.?
Today, the check engine light lit up on my 1998 Chevy Venture. The problem is it shakes while it Idles. When you are driving it doesn't have this problem. For this reason I narrowed it down to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). But when I tested it, the Voltmeter came up with .6V at idle and 4.5V at full open throttle. The book I am using says approximately .5V for Idle and 4.5V for full throttle, is this .1V deviation in the idle voltage what is causing my problems? If not can anyone help me?? I don't want to buy a $30 sensor if I don't need it. Thanks!

A: I would say that the voltage variation is not significant. However, you need either an oscilloscope, or an analogue volt meter with a needle, not digital. I'll assume you don't have a scope. In addition to the voltages at idle and at full throttle, using the meter, slowly move the throttle from idle to full and back again. You can do this from under the hood or with someone working the accelerator pedal. You should see a nice smooth transition from the low to high and back again. You can check this using resistance as opposed to voltage as well. The car does not have to be running or have voltage to check this using resistance. Any jumping at all and the TPS should be changed. It should be perfectly smooth. You can buy an analogue meter at Radio Shack for under $10.

Q: 1998 chevy venture van won't start?
I have a 1998 chevy venture van, I took it to the store did some shopping came out and the thing wouldn't start. Since then, I have put a brand new starter, alternator and even exchanged my 2 month old battery under warranty. I have changed 3 of the spark plugs in front (as well as the wires) of the engine but am unable to get to the 3 in the back. I am wondering if this might have anything to do with the problem? I am thinking about taking it to a garage, but really don't have the money. And yes, there is gas in the car. I did have it started 3 nights ago, but then it stalled on me. I had just used a battery charger to charge the battery to 12.6 amps and after I was done starting it for about 1 minute and checked the battery it was down to 12.1 amps. I have no idea if this is normal for a battery, but something is wrong with my van, and I've tried every avenue I can think of for a non-starting car. Any other input, other than taking it to a garage would be appreciated! Thanks! Yes, it does make a noise when I try to start it, like it's TRYING to turn over, one reason I replaced the starter. I had a cracked alternator and the battery, as stated in the original got replaced for FREE since I had to buy a new battery the day after I bought the van. I do appreciate the people who actually submitted advice; not advice about taking it to the garage; let's keep in mind I also have to PAY for a tow truck to tow the thing to the garage and the nearest one is about 15-20 miles away from my house (and that's a dealer...)!!!

A: well lets see a brand new starter was probably 200 a new battery was at least 60 alternator around 150 A shop would have diagnosed the problem and fixed it for probably much less than $400.........sometimes going the cheap way will cost more in the end.... But I will give you some advice.......first of all check ALL the fuses in the vehicle.....those inside the van as well as the ones under the hood......your can buy a fuse tester/puller at walmart if the engine is turning over and the fuses are good........so it is either not getting fuel or spark........pull a plug wire stick a screwdriver in it hold it about 1/2 inch away from a piece of metal on the motor and have someone try to start it.....when they crank the engine over there should be a bright blue spark that jumps from the screwdriver to the metal...if it doesn't then you aren't getting any spark and need to check the ignition system... if you are getting spark then it is probably a fuel problem.......most likely causes are faulty fuel pump or clogged filter.....the fuel pump is in the gas tank and will require removal of the tank......good luck!!!

Q: what could be wrong with my 1998 chevy venture not starting / i already changed fuel fillter?
there is spark and it wants to turn over but dont seem like any fuel is getting to the motor. fuel pump sounds as if its working and need ta know if there could be any thing else . it trys to start if you use starting fluid

A: your computer in the car that makes everthing work could be bad. it makes a lot of stuff work. Make fire make fuel pump run, makes injerors, and a lot of other stuff work.

Q: how do I reprogram a key fob for a 1998 chevy venture?
I found a website with most cars on how to do this, I did it and it worked, thankyou all for your answers. http://www.programyourremote.com/

A: Use the key to get into the car. Insert the key into the ignition. Press the door locks while cycling the ignition key on and off three or four times (just to the "on" position, not "Start". (This usually works on most GM vehicles, although I haven't tried it myself, I'm told it usually takes four cycles of the key). Good luck!
