Q: 1999 Chevy Venture Transmission To Replace or Not To?
I have a '99 Chevy Venture. Transmission needs to be replaced - $2000-$3000. Head gasket also needs replacement - $750. Have 116,000 miles on the thing already. No rust at all. Should I spend $3000-$4000 to fix it up or should I just find another used vehicle? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
A: Chevy ventures are nice vans. Unfortunately the head gaskets are a common problem on them. I would take into the consideration of..... 1) do you like the van? 2) do you have $3000-$4000 on hand for the repairs? & 3) if you have the money, is that better for you to repair it rather that take out a loan for another vehicle? My own opinion, I would repair it only for the fact that it will last alot more miles after the fact. Make sure you do one thing tho IF you repair it.... have BOTH head gaskets replaced if only one is bad. If you don't chances are the other will go out shortly down the road. The mechanic will already have it tore apart so it won't be much more to have the other done also. GOOD LUCK
Q: Where is the thermostat located on a 1999 Chevy Venture?
I need to replace it, and I have no clue where it is.
A: Its under the exhaust cross-over pipe,middle to be exact. Very hard to get the two bolts out.to remove the hsg.It would be easier for you to remove that exhaust pipe to gain access to it

It has severe damage to the driver side front fender, the turn signal on that side is missing, and small amount of damage to the bumper on that side, and alittle damage underneath the driver side door. All this damage occurred when the tread blew off the tire on that side, I was driving down us 23 in ohio.
A: The only way to find out for sure is get an estimate from a body shop. They'll give you an estimate for free and I'd recommend getting at least three different shops to look at it. If they say they charge for an estimate just say, "thanks" and go some other place.
Q: Antifreeze leak in a 1999 Chevy Venture?
One mechanic says its timing cover seal, intake & thermostat - a $1500 job. My regular mechanic says putting a sealer in works - a $100 job. He recommends keeping an eye on coolant level & bringing back again if there are more leaks. The second option sounds great to me, but how long does this type of fix generally last compared to fixing the problem at $1500?? Trying to decide if it is worth keeping this car. Thanks!
A: the biggest problem with these model,s is that they used dissimilar metal,s [ aluminum intake to cast iron engine]....the aluminum expand,s at a faster rate from engine heat....in effect rubbing gasket,s to the point they begin leaking....a sealer [ stop leak] may work for a short time.....but failure is imminent.....improvement,s in gasket manufacturing have come a long way.....have them changed & forget about it.....shop around for price,s though.....1,500. seem,s a bit steep.......good luck!

Is it in the front, in front of the manifold, or on the drivers side right behind coolant? I am trying to recharge my A/C myself. I know I can get the book but they are closed today. Yes I am a woman and know how to work on cars some. Never had to do this though. Thanks for your help.
A: When you open the hood up look to the left of the radiator cap it should be about two or three inches lower then the top of the radiator cap and you want to make sure it is the smaller line that is the low pressure side it is almost always between the condenser and the drier. the condenser is the radiator looking thing that is up front and is actually in front of the radiator and the drier is the round thermos bottle looking thing and the coo lent lines go in and out of it. have any problems right back.

Q: Why does ABS light come on intermittently (1999 Chevy Venture minivan)?
The ABS light will come on and stay on, but then when you shut off the car it will go off and may or may not come on again the next time you drive it. It's been happening for a week or two now. Vehicle seems to be running fine and I haven't actually had any trouble with the brakes. I noticed that the turn signal will flash faster than usual at times too and once in a while the turn signal indicators on the dash will light up very dimly when I have my foot on the brakes, which makes me think it's some sort of electrical problem. Van's got 120k+ miles so I'm reluctant to stick money into it. Any ideas on what the problem might be?
A: You could have a faulty wheel speed sensor. 9 times out of ten, the reason for an ABS light is this. AutoZone should be able to pull the code for you and tell you which one is bad.

This is simply untrue. Voltage changes have no effect on the computer.Your dash light problem could simply be a bulb that is on its way to that big filament in the sky. Check your turn signal and brake light bulbs. One may be brighter than the others, pulling more juice causing your dash lights to dim.
Q: 1999 chevy venture not starting?
I replaced the battery a few days ago and everything was fine. I started it up and went to a friends house then it wouldn't start. i had to cross the solenoid to get home. replaced starter/solenoid and still nothing
checked ignition relays under hood and all fuses and everything seems alright. All this 3 days before heading across country
I've cleaned the cables as well. The ignition switch under the dash sounds like its making contact. i wondered about a fusible link somewhere but haven't found it yet
A: If you can't locate the problem, best be prepared to cross the solenoid every time you shut it off.

A: Pump is in the tank, filter is on the frame rail almost directly under the drivers door.

A: Check at the bottom of the radiator, I can't remember if its right or left side, but there is a stopcock that is loosened by turning counter clockwise and the fluid drains out. have a container big enough to catch the 2-4 gallons of liquid as it is toxic to pets, kids and waterlife.

A: is it the key that goes to the van? if not its the chip in the key. it will start once then shut fuel system off.

A: If it's a power window, see if it sounds like the motor is running when you push the button, if it does it's most likely the regulator. If it doesn't you'll need to see if there's power to the motor. First check your fuses, If it's good then you'll need to start checking the switch, and then the motor for power.
