Q: Help!!! Repair costs for a 2004 Chevy Venture!?
I was reversing the van through deep snow and I hit a pile of gravel/snow and the van got stuck. we tried really hard to push both backwards and forewards and there was no luck. Eventually we got out with the help of two nice ladies and a bag of sand and a shovel. The thing is, the front bumper is cracked on the passengers side, and the hatchback is pushed it (think of it as when you push the cap of a bottle in) I'm only 16 and my parent's are going to kill me! How much is this gonna cost me? Here's a link to the pictures... http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z139/rhy53/ Please help!

A: You can remove the inner hatch panel and push the dent back out, might be some stress marks but it will look a hell of a lot better. If you clean it a toilet plunger and dish soap may grab it enough to pop it out. The bumper will need to be reskinned and painted to match. 250-500 dollars.

Q: Can anybody tell me if an aluminum head can expand enough to blow out or discharge a spark plug?
I have a 3.4L 6cyl engine from a 2004 Chevy Venture and the service dept. is not willing to assume responsibility for a blown spark plug that appears to have been left a little loose, but they are insisting that the problem is caused by this aluminum head expanding and blowing out or discharging the spark plug. I have read nothing on this and I don't believe that an aluminum head could expand that much without it affecting the rest of the engine, yet alone the spark plug from hole #1.

A: I have only been working on cars for a little over 55 years but I haven't seen one do it yet! Sparkplug holes can be easily stripped out from over tightening the sparkplugs. They can also be stripped trying to get out "seized' plugs,- because of not using "anti-seizing compound"--(poor service procedure")! And because aluminum is so soft, a plug "rattling around" in hole will eventeually wear the threads down to point they will not "hold" a sparkplug anymore! The expanding (aliminum) head theory is a bunch of "baloney"!! If this were the truth, then nothing could be bolted onto that aluminum head either, as the bolts would all be "spit out" on floor eventeually, and all the accessories would fall off! The problem can be repaired with a "helicoil"- which is a "threaded spring device" - which is screwed into a larger threaded hole-- (made for this purpose), the sparkplug then has good threads to remain in hole again! This is not same as replacing head, but if done properly, it could actually be a little stronger than origional, as the threads in head are larger, and therefore have more "gripping surface"! And this repair will cost a whole lot less than removing and replacing head! Shoud take about an hour or less if area is easily accessible, (and #1 plug hole shoud be right out there where it is easily reached)!
